Passerina is an indigenous grapevine cultivated throughout central Italy. This “golden” grape, so called for its
prestigious reputation, is of Greek origin and is often blended with other
white wines. As a separate varietal,
Passerina fruit produces wines which are typified by their aromatic intensity. TASTING NOTES: Capestrano’s 2008 Passerina Marche is an enjoyably dry, full white wine. The bouquet is indeed intensely
aromatic: floral, fruity, and pleasantly spicy. These aromas complement the subtle flavors of iced melon,
fresh citrus and ripe pear on the palate. SERVE WITH: Light appetizers, cold cuts, mild cheeses, and fish dishes. The Passerina is also the perfect match
for more traditional Italian fare: fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, and pastas in
light cream sauces.
Pinnochio is a “juicy, sunny, and truly amusing” red wine imported from
Sicily. It is 100% Nero d’Avola, a
varietal native to the region. TASTING NOTES: In the glass, Dievole’s Pinnochio is an intense ruby-red with lush indigo-blue
reflexes. Fruity berry aromas,
floral notes, and a touch of sweet spice introduce a bright, full-bodied palate
featuring cherry and dried currant flavors. Chewy tannins and subtle minerality lead into a lingering
finish showing traces of mocha. SERVE WITH: White meats or spicy fish dishes.
